In September 2013, Artek became part of the Vitra Group, resulting in a partnership built on affinity and a shared passion for design.
The acquisition of Artek by Vitra signified for Artek an opportunity for growth and development. A milestone was reached last January when Artek acquired the Alvar Aalto furniture production of HKT Korhonen factory, in order to secure the continuity and profitability of production. Synergies between different operations have been explored, primarily relating to manufacturing, distribution and logistics.
Rolf Fehlbaum, Chairman Emeritus of Vitra, explains the new structure: “Mirkku Kullberg has done such a great job for Artek that Vitra’s board asked her to head Vitra’s new home division. Mirkku, however, would not accept the position if the right person could not be found to lead Artek. This person was found in Marianne Goebl, who had been a highly appreciated design and communication manager with Vitra before becoming the director of the Design Miami/ fair. I am very happy that Marianne is back and will dedicate her extraordinary energy and experience to the Artek project and equally happy that Mirkku is now in charge of Vitra Home, a division which will strongly contribute to Vitra’s growth in the coming years.”
.
Mirkku Kullberg, who has successfully led Artek since 2005, joins Vitra as Head of Vitra Home and takes over the presidency of Artek’s Board of Directors. “The past nine years as CEO at Artek have been extremely valuable and incredibly interesting for me.
"It has been a privilege to participate in the preparation of Artek for a new era. The team that has worked with me so diligently and with passion and courage has succeeded in restoring Artek’s true status internationally. The Artek collections are a significant part of Vitra’s new Home strategy. In my post as Head of the Vitra Home segment, I will be able to strengthen the position of Artek within Vitra.
Marianne Goebl, an international design expert, will play an important role in the development of the new product portfolio. Together, we will build bridges between companies and future business through new products and new sales channels,” states Mirkku Kullberg.
