Perchè Marimekko, una delle aziende di design finlandese più famose al mondo, è presente sul mercato italiano? Qual è il suo rapporto culturale e commerciale con l’Italia? Lo scopriamo attraverso un’intervista a Päivi Lonka, Chief Sales Officer di Marimekko.
How many years has your company been present on the Italian market?
“Marimekko has been present in Italy since the beginning of the 1960s".
Are you more present in Northern Italy, in the Centre or in the South? In which italian cities were you more present in the past? And now?
“Marimekko products are sold all over Italy, from South to North. We are mainly present in cities that are most established centers as design and fashion. Why did your company decide to be present in the Italian market?
“Italy has a strong design culture and heritage and Italians really appreciate design. Therefore, it is very natural for Marimekko to be present in the Italian market”.
What is your target customer in Italy?
“Our target customer is bold in expressing herself through her choice of attire and dressing up her home. She appreciates design as a means of bringing beauty into her everyday life, contemporary style and high-quality products”.
What are the products you sell the most in Italy?
“Both Marimekko’s ready-to-wear and home products and sold in some of the most high-quality design stores in Italy”.
Why should Italians enjoy your products and Finnish style?
“Through its design, Marimekko wants to bring joy to the everyday lives of people and encourage them to express their personalities boldly. I find this to be universal – we can all use a little bit of beauty in everyday moments”.
Do you consider Milan Design Week an important event to give visibility to Marimekko for the Italian and international market?
“Milan Design Week is one of the most important design events in the world, so it offers us a great meeting point with design lovers from around the world. Of course, taking part in Milan Design Week has increased the brand awareness of Marimekko along the years”.
What's your goal for next Milan Design Week?
“We are yet to announce our plans for the Milan Design Week, but we will keep you up to date. We of course hope to meet many old and new friends of Marimekko during the event”.
